Allrounder Moises Henriques has been added to Australia’s squad for the first Test against India starting Thursday.
The summoning of Henriques comes amid ongoing uncertainty about the fitness of fellow allrounder Cameron Green, who is recovering from concussion.
But NSW paceman Sean Abbott has been ruled of out calculations for the day-night series-opener in Adelaide because of a calf strain.
Abbott was injured playing for Australia A against the Indians at the SCG at the weekend.
Cricket Australia said Abbott will remain in Sydney for treatment and is expected to rejoin the Test squad for the second Test in Melbourne starting Boxing Day.
The Australians have already revamped their Test squad for Adelaide with openers David Warner (groin) and Will Pucovski (concussion) ruled unfit.
Victorian opener Marcus Harris was previously included in the squad.
