The actor previously known by their birth name as Ellen Page, has revealed that they actually identify as male and has come out on social media! Check out the lengthy and deeply personal message!
That’s right! The Juno and Umbrella Academy star has bravely told the world that he is a transgender male and uses the he/him and they/them pronouns.
‘I am trans, my pronouns are he/they and my name is Elliot. I feel so lucky to be writing this. To have arrived at this place in life. I feel gratitude for the incredible people who’ve supported me along this journey. I cannot begin to express just how remarkable it all feels to love who I am enough to finally pursue my authentic self.’
He’s also changed his name to reflect his identity, choosing to go by Elliot.
While the open letter is both very empowered and vulnerable, Page has been getting a lot of support and love from both fans and fellow stars in the industry and he’s been sharing some of the messages of support on his IG Stories.
The Hollywood star went on to also admit that he is scared of the jokes, the violence and invasiveness.
He used this message to celebrate the ‘joyous’ coming out but could not help but bring awareness to such things that trans people go through all the time!
‘I also ask for patience, My joy is real, but it is also fragile. The truth is that despite feeling profoundly happy right now and knowing how much privilege I carry, I am also scared. I am scared of the invasiveness, of the hate, the ‘jokes’ and of violence. To be clear, I’m not trying to dampen a moment that’s joyous and one I celebrate, but I want to address the full picture. The statistics are staggering. The discrimination towards transgender people is rife, insidious and cruel, resulting in horrific consequences,’ Elliot wrote.
